About Parque Nacional Iguazú
Iguazú National Park was created in 1934 and protects about 67,000 hectares of Atlantic forest in northern Misiones, roughly 17 km from downtown Puerto Iguazú. For visitors, almost everything happens in the Área Cataratas: you enter through the access portal, cross the services plaza, and from Estación Central the Tren Ecológico de la Selva takes you toward the trails. The train is included in the ticket.
The main routes are the Upper Circuit (1,850 m, accessible), the Lower Circuit (1,450 m, with stairs), the Green Trail (650 m) and the Macuco Trail, a 7 km round trip through the forest to Arrechea Falls that closes at 3 pm. The Devil's Throat walk has been closed as a precaution since August 2026 because of river floods, and San Martín Island has been off-limits since late 2017. Plan a full day and, if you can, come back for a second one: the return visit costs half.
Local tip
Arrive at opening time: in high season the train line can be long. Keep your first-day ticket, which gets you 50% off a second visit.
