Boat ride under the falls with Iguazú Jungle

No verified official figure: confirm before booking ✓ Checked on

In short

Jungle 4x4 and a speedboat through the rapids to the foot of the falls, with the authorised operator on the Argentine side. Depends on river level.

Before you book

  • In 2026 boat trips were suspended for low water (March) and for flooding (July). Check whether trips are running before you go.
  • The Gran Aventura is not open to people with motor, visceral (including type 1 diabetes), sensory or cognitive disabilities.
  • Pregnant women and children under 12 cannot take part.
  • On 28 Jul 2026 a boat from another operator capsized on the Brazilian side and a tourist died: always follow the crew's instructions.

What it's like

On the Argentine side, boat trips inside Iguazú National Park are run by Iguazú Jungle, the company authorised to operate in the park. The best known is the Gran Aventura: it combines a stretch through the jungle in a 4x4 vehicle with a boat ride up the rapids of the Lower Iguazú River, straight to the foot of the falls. For most people the highlight is plunging into the spray from the falling water: you will come back soaked.

The company also runs calmer outings, such as the Paseo Ecológico, a quiet boat trip on the Upper Iguazú for spotting wildlife, and the Travesía Iguazú, which adds a trail and a boat ride to the Triple Frontier landmark. The press also mentions a Paseo Náutico: ask how it differs and whether it is running. We could not verify current durations or prices from an official source.

The honest downside: everything depends on the river. In March 2026 trips were suspended because the water was too low, and in late July, during the flood, all boat trips on the Argentine side were halted. In September the flow reached about 8,370 m³/s, more than five times normal. The Gran Aventura is also demanding: children under 12 and pregnant women cannot take part.

What to expect

  • A jungle stretch in a 4x4 vehicle before boarding (Gran Aventura)
  • A boat ride up the Lower Iguazú rapids to the foot of the falls
  • A full soaking in the spray: you hold your breath for a moment
  • Around 300 metres of stairs down to and up from the jetty
  • Safety instructions from the crew before setting off

Book directly with Iguazú Jungle, the operator authorised inside the park, on its official website or by asking at the park. You also need park admission. Ask whether trips are running that day given the river level.

Tips

  • Check the river conditions on the day: boat trips can be suspended overnight.
  • If you are travelling with children under 12, the Gran Aventura is ruled out: ask about the calmer outings.
  • If you have any health condition, tell the crew before boarding.
  • Do it at the end of your park visit so you are not walking around wet all day.

What to bring: Clothes that can get wet and a dry change for afterwards · A dry bag or plastic bag for your phone and documents · Shoes with good grip that can get wet · Sunscreen and insect repellent

Frequently asked questions

Are the boat trips running now?

It depends on the river. In 2026 they were suspended in March for low water and in late July because of the flood. We could not confirm their status as of 10 October 2026: check with Iguazú Jungle before you go.

What is the minimum age for the Gran Aventura?

Twelve, according to the requirements published by Iguazú National Park in July 2026. Pregnant women cannot take part either.

Will I get wet?

Yes, very. The boat goes into the spray of the falls. Bring a dry change of clothes and protect your phone in a dry bag.

Do I need park admission?

Yes. The boat trips leave from inside Iguazú National Park, so you pay general admission on top of the tour.
