About Parque das Aves
Parque das Aves is a private park devoted to conserving Atlantic Forest birds. It opened in 1994 on about 16 hectares of forest, right next to the entrance of Iguaçu National Park. You walk along a trail that passes through large themed enclosures: one for toucans, another for macaws, one for butterflies and hummingbirds and another for river and mangrove birds, among others.
It pairs well with the Brazilian side of the Falls because it sits on the same road: the park itself suggests arriving early, having lunch there and then moving on to the national park. It also operates in the rain, so it makes a good backup plan when the weather turns. From Puerto Iguazú you need to cross into Brazil over the Tancredo Neves bridge; Foz bus line 120, the same one that goes to the Falls, stops at the gate. There are places to eat and a souvenir shop.
Local tip
If you're doing the birds and the Falls on the same day, start at Parque das Aves at opening time and go to the Falls afterwards: the two entrances are a few metres apart.
