About Parque Nacional do Iguaçu
On the Brazilian side you see the Falls head-on. Since most of the cascades drop on the Argentine side, this is where you get the full picture: the main trail, about 1.5 km long, runs down along the canyon past several viewpoints and ends at a walkway that reaches out over the river facing the Devil's Throat. The visit is shorter than the one in the Argentine park, and the two work well together: many people do Argentina one day and Brazil the next.
You enter through the Visitor Centre on highway BR-469, and park shuttle buses take you to the start of the trail. The ticket also covers other paths and the bike lane, although some may be closed because of high water or maintenance. Visitor services are run by the concessionaire Urbia+Cataratas, while the park itself is managed by ICMBio. From Puerto Iguazú you have to cross the Tancredo Neves bridge, so build border time into your plans and bring your physical ID.
Local tip
Bring a light rain jacket or a change of clothes for the walkway, because you will get wet. If you're going by bus, add Parque das Aves, a few metres from the entrance.
Practical guide
Before you go
- The Caminho das Bananeiras is listed as temporarily closed and the Trilha da Canafístula as closed for monitoring (September 2026).
- When the river is high the walkway can close for safety, as it did in July 2026; the main trail stayed open that day.
- Argentines cross with their valid DNI card: the Mi Argentina digital DNI is not accepted at the border.
- The park had record visitor numbers in July 2026: expect queues in holiday periods and arrive early.
What to do
- Walk the Falls Trail, about 1.5 km, with canyon viewpoints
- Step onto the walkway over the river facing the Devil's Throat
- Go up to the Porto Canoas lookout, which has a panoramic lift
- Cycle the bike lane or walk Poço Preto if they are open
- How long
- Half a day. Allow 2 to 3 hours inside the park, plus transport and the bridge crossing, which varies a lot from day to day.
- Who it suits
- For anyone after the panoramic view of the falls, before or after the Argentine side. Good for families and for people who walk little: the trail is short.
- Best time to go
- Open all year. Water flow depends on rainfall: high water means more spray, but the walkway may close. July and public holidays fill the park; an early weekday is best.
