About Hito Tres Fronteras
The Three Borders Landmark marks, on the Argentine side, the spot where the Iguazú River flows into the Paraná and Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet. From the lookout you can see the neighbouring countries' markers on the opposite banks, each painted in its flag colours; Argentina's is light blue and white. The Argentine and Brazilian markers were inaugurated on the same day, 20 July 1903; Paraguay's came decades later.
It is a public plaza with an obelisk, an esplanade, a gallery of craft stalls and a lookout over the Paraná. It is a short but lovely stop, especially late in the day, when the sun goes down on the Paraguayan side. In 2026 a camera post linked to the 911 emergency line was added to monitor the landmark, the craft area and the riverside walk. The light and dancing-water show the site once had was reported out of service in 2022, and we found no official information that it has returned.
Local tip
Arrive half an hour before sunset to get a spot at the railing, then walk back to the centre for dinner.
