About Parque Provincial Puerto Península
Puerto Península Provincial Park protects about 6,900 hectares of Paranaense rainforest bordering Iguazú National Park, in the Iguazú department. It was created in 2004 to safeguard a mixed forest of palmito palm and palo rosa, along with cultural values linked to Guaraní communities and early settlers. Camera traps in the park have recorded jaguar, puma and margay, and in 2020 a giant anteater for the first time.
It is little known and has no major tourist facilities. According to local press, there is a landscaped area by the road open to the public, and to walk the trail you need permission from the ranger on duty, who tells you which way to go. Do not confuse it with the Puerto Península Defense Nature Reserve, which surrounds it and where the Army runs jungle training.
Local tip
A short outing for a free morning in Puerto Iguazú. Ask the ranger about the Dr. César Napoleón Ayrault trail.
