About Parque Mitológico Guaraní

In Colonia Wanda, beside the tunnels of the Compañía Minera Wanda, there is a park with figures of characters from Guaraní mythology, each with a sign telling its story. It is usually walked at the end of the mine visit, after seeing geodes of amethyst, quartz, agate and topaz embedded in the basalt rock. It is an easygoing way to discover legends still told in the region, and it works very well with children.

Wanda, founded in 1936 by Polish settlers, owes its main draw to its gemstone mines. Since early 2026 the town council has charged an ecotourism fee to visitors of the mining sites, which sparked a dispute with the companies: in March 2026 they suspended public visits for a weekend, and days later reports said they remained open. As we found no recent official information about the park itself, check that it is operating before you set out.

Local tip

If you are driving, make a day of it along Route 12: Wanda, Puerto Libertad and the Puerto Bemberg story in one outing, and get back to Iguazú before dark.
